BVI shines at Argentina’s biggest Tourism Fair

The British Virgin Islands (BVI) shined at Argentina’s biggest tourism fair: FIT (Feria Internacional de Turismo). From November 14 to the 17, hundreds of travel agents, tour operators, and travel enthusiasts showed up to get a glimpse at the British Virgin Islands and its offerings.

Acting Director of the BVI Tourist Board, Hadassah Ward, expressed the importance of the agency’s efforts to diversify its visitors.  “We are making a stronger effort to make the British Virgin Islands more visible in different markets.  For years we have had visitors from Latin America, but in an effort to really expose as many travellers as possible to the BVI and for the Territory to remain globally competitive in tourism, it is imperative that we strengthen our visibility in Latin America.”
BVI’s representatives for the Caribbean and Latin America, Tomas Dardet and Efraín J. Rivera headed out to Argentina to showcase the British Virgin Islands as the perfect exotic and sailing destination. The destination attracted many visitors from Argentina including travel agents from Chile and Uruguay that participated in the event.

“We are very excited to have showcased in FIT 2009. BVI’s natural beauty engaged many who will surely select these islands for their next vacation,” expressed Tomás Dardet, press officer of the BVI Tourist Board for Latin America and the Caribbean.

The BVI Kite Jam and Wreck Week were a few of the upcoming events that were promoted along with other signature events such as the Spring Regatta and Sailing festival, Music Fest, and New Year’s Eve on Jost Van Dyke.

In addition, Dardet had the opportunity to meet with journalists from some of the most influential media in the country. “Participating in FIT will open many doors for the British Virgin Islands and will enhance its already remarkable nautical and land tourism industry,” said Dardet.

According to the event organisers; 1,685 national and international exhibitors showcased their products on the 42 thousand square metres grounds, bringing in 80,000 visitors of which 50,527 where general public. This showed a 4.58 percent increase over the 2008 attendance. The fair allowed the visiting public the opportunity to receive first hand information on vacation destinations along with the possibilities within.

BVI TOUTED AS ONE OF THE BEST PLACES ON EARTH

In the December issue of ISLANDS Magazine, the British Virgin Islands will be recognised as one of the 12 best places on earth.

The Territory will be featured in the magazine’s travellers Wish List for winter.
