Villa Aja – Tortola Vacation Rental
Villa Aja, pronounced “Ah-Jah” (meaning magical in Indonesian), is a secluded luxury villa vacation rental, on the North shore of Tortola, the British Virgin Islands. Purched on an elevated headland overlooking the dramatic Trunk Bay beach.
Villa Aja provides its guests with a unique and memorable experience, where they can feel pampered in luxurious surroundings, take full advantage of the spectacular location and feel close and integrated with nature, with the mesmerising sound of waves lapping the shore.
Perched just a few hundred feet from the sea below, and comprising two separate structures connected by a central walkway and luxury infinity pool, Villa Aja is a two-story, five bedroom property (four main suites and one children’s bedroom with bunk beds). This modern villa is minimalist in style with clean lines and vibrant art deco colours of lime, blue and orange, encompassing Asian and art deco fusion and combining modern furniture and design with bold and bright colours in an exquisite Indonesian tree-house layout and secret pathway to the beach.
Aja is centrally and conveniently located within the Parkers Estate development on the North Shore of Tortola. Once you enter the development, you drive a few hundred yards along a concrete road to be met by an incredible and completely unique vista which encompasses Trunk Bay beach and the chain of islands looking North East from Guana, Great Camanoe, Virgin Gorda, all the way backed down to Necker Island.
After the concrete road, you travel a few hundred yards on an unmade road (well graded and not very steep but be careful in the rain) which takes you to the driveway and the front gate of Aja. A large, Javanese door amongst extensive tropical landscaping marks the entrance. Once through the doors, you enter the heavens, a breathtaking spectacle as you look across the dramatic Trunk Bay, with the chain of islands from Guana through to Neckar and a tremendous wash of turquoise blue from the infinity pool to the ocean below.
Follow the stone staircase down to a walkway, which connects the two sides of the villa with Bougainvillea, Furs and Palms lining the way, and meticulously arranged in a happy combination of a tropical and winter paradise. To the right of the walkway and pool deck sits the living room/dining room and kitchen area, entered through a large outdoor entertaining veranda offering welcome shade from the midday sun, luxurious day beds with blue and lime-green cushions and spectacular sea views. And use the nautically styled pulley system on show and open the kitchen wall out into a bar for entertaining by day or night and to invite the breeze in.
The fully equipped kitchen, a contemporary European design, offers state of the art equipment and features, with all new stainless steel appliances including two dishwashers, a digital-touch control hob, unique stainless steal tiling and an extensive fridge freezer, a wall of smooth steal. The extra high ceilings with exposed wooden beams provide a large open space, with suspended high-end pendant light fixtures creating a real ambiance by night with subtle highlighting. As well as being ultra stylish, the kitchen is practical in design, with a large island in the center equipped with ice maker and plentiful cupboard space, and conveniently connected to the living area for flexibility when hosting.
The lounge is built for entertainment with a 58inch flat screen TV, indoor and outdoor music system hooked, a DVD player and sky dish. The lounge offers ample seating with a large L-shaped sofa and a long white bench to the side covered with vibrant cushions of lime-green, blue and orange. The whole side wall slides open, inviting the cool breeze in and a spectacular backdrop to while away the hours.
The first bedroom/bathroom suite, Blue, sits a short walk from the main entertainment area. The room is aptly named: the idyllic scene from the large bedroom window, offers a wash of aqua marine blues from the pool and the ocean all the way up to the cloudless sky, not knowing where one line starts and the other finishes.
Across the walkway to the other side of the pool you find the second suite, Mosaic, suitably named after the beautifully finished mosaic tiling in the bathroom, again in contemporary style with aqua-marine blues and greens which fill the shower and opens out onto a private wooden balcony with views across the bay, allowing you to shower peacefully with nature. The bedroom is clean and fresh with satin cream curtains and bed spread and a tasteful use of colour, also with its own private balcony and spectacular sea view.
Next door you have the third suite, Sublime, with attached lime coloured bathroom and a wall of glass to the end. The sight and scent of lime lifts your spirits, coupled with delicate pebble flooring in the shower, which tickle the feet, your senses are awakened and you feel like you are showering in the Caribbean sea. This suite also has a private balcony with views of the sea and the poolside.
On the lower level sits a fourth bedroom/bathroom suite, Copper-tone, the most private of all the suites, with a large private balcony and some unique features inside, including art deco lamps, mock wooden tiling in the shower and the pebble finish floor to bring the outside in. The vast double doors with full screens protect you from the insects by night and leave you safely cocooned next-to the ocean. Close by, you have a fully equipped children’s room complete with bunk beds and adjacent bathroom (set out as a wet room), offering practical use and a clean finish, with the side wall opening out and again allowing you to shower with nature. Laundry facilities are also kept downstairs on this level, behind heavy hardwood double doors.
The glistening waters of the infinity pool and large outdoor decking area lie at the heart of the villa, joining the two sections together, capturing the picturesque view of the beach below as a wonderful center painting. Lying by the pool, you feel like you are in the heavens looking down onto the outstanding Trunk Bay.
When you decide you want to step from the heavens and into the seas below, you can access the sandy white beach using the Taiwanese tree-house steps, down through the manicured gardens filled with Bougainvillea, Oleander, leafy palms and luscious green grass, meticulously lined tier by tier with hundreds of red rocks like that of a sugar plantation in the 18th century.
This glorious stretch of unspoilt soft sandy beach remains nature’s untouched little secret.
